Barbara Bakeberg, 83
Barbara Jean (Kespohl) Bakeberg, 83, of Howard Lake, MN, formerly of Waverly, died peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis following a brief illness.
Barb was born on June 19, 1939, to Clarence and Helen (Galvin) Kespohl. She was the oldest of four children, including Patrick, Sharon and Ann.
Barb graduated from Buffalo High School in 1957.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Vernon Bakeberg on May 17, 1958. They lived on the family farm in Woodland Township where Barbara remained until 2016.
Barb moved to the Heritage Square Senior Apartments in Howard Lake where she enjoyed building gatherings. She created many wonderful relationships with her neighbors, where they looked after one another.
She enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, and her favorite was cooking for others.
Barb spent many years working at Marketplace in Cokato, MN.
She was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed her three trips to Ireland.
Barb was a devoted Catholic and enjoyed sharing her faith by regularly volunteering to deliver the Eucharist at Ridgeview Hospital and the Cokato Nursing Home. She went on several trips to Lourdes in France with her daughter Donna and was able to attend a mass with Pope Benedict. She was honored when she obtained her medal for five years of volunteer services at Lourdes.
She was preceded in death by husband, Vernon; son, Ron; her parents; brother, Pat, and his wife, Sandy; son-in-law, David Schliep; and brother-in-law, Bob DeWolfe.
Barb is survived by her sisters, Sharon Bateman and Ann DeWolfe; her children, Donna, Robert (Gale), Ralph (Patty), Denise Schliep and Rande (Kim); 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly on Friday, September 16, from 4-8 p.m. with prayers at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, September 17, at 10:30 a.m. with visitation from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. at St. Mary’s. Father Kenneth O’Hotto and Deacon Ralph Bakeberg will be officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow. Private interment at Howard Lake Cemetery.

Allen Carlson, 96
Allen Lewis Carlson, age 96, of Monticello, passed away on August 28, 2022.
Allen was born in La Crosse, WI on May 1, 1926, the oldest of three children born to Alfred and Christine (Olson) Carlson. At an early age, his parents moved to the Monticello area where he grew up. He attended a rural elementary school and high school in Elk River, where he graduated in 1945. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith, was confirmed at St. Peters Church in Monticello, where he remained an active member.
He served in the United States Armed Forces from 1953 to 1955 with some time in Germany. Upon his return, he found employment with Hoffman Engineering in Anoka where he worked for 33 years, retiring in 1988. In 1961, he married Lorraine Weber, of Howard Lake. In 1962, they built their rural home east of Monticello. Their marriage was blessed with one son, Paul. Lorraine passed away in 1971.
In 1973, he married Betty Carlson with daughter, Connie, and son, Keith. Betty passed away in 1989. He married Audrey Davis in 1994. Audrey passed away in 2021.
Allen was preceded in death by his wives, Lorraine, Betty, and Audrey; and brother, Robert in 1964.
He is survived by children, Paul (Kathy), Connie, and Keith (Melanie) Carlson; grandchildren, Shawn Olson, Melissa Peterson, Linda (Robert) Cohen, Kimberly (Ryan) Howard, Travis (Sharon Lantto), Wesley, David, Amanda, and Cheyenne (Myles) Gillespie; great-grandchildren, Hazel, Axel, Chase, Christian, Madeline, Jayson, Noah, Savannah, Reese, Reginald, and Benjamin. Audrey’s children and their families, Larry (Pam), Lonnie (Kathy) Davis, Lucille (Rodney) Bechtold, and Lorraine (Doug) Roush; and her 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Christianson; other relatives and friends.
His family and many friends and neighbors will always remember Allen for his availability and willingness to lend a helping hand where needed.
Services were held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, with visitation one hour prior to service at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 413 3rd Street East, Monticello, MN, Pastor Aaron Jensen officiated. Interment Riverside Cemetery. Luncheon followed interment at church.

Gerald Corbin, 63
Gerald Duane “Jerry” Corbin, age 63, of Buffalo, MN, formerly of Sebeka, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, after four courageous years battling cancer, on August 29.
He was born on August 28, 1959, in Wadena, Minnesota, son of Duane and Ardyth (Kasper) Corbin. Jerry attended Sebeka High School and graduated with the class of 1977. After high school, he enlisted to serve in the United States Army. He proudly served from 1977 until he was honorably discharged in 1980. Stationed with the United States Army Garrison Schweinfurt, Germany, he earned the decorations of Sharpshooter-M-16 Rifle, and Expert, Hand Grenade during his time as a cannon crewman. While living in Germany, he met Elke Elise (Pressler) Corbin and was joined in marriage in Copenhagen, Denmark, on May 8, 1980. Together, they raised two children and had four grandchildren.
They moved back stateside while their children were young, and Jerry enrolled at Alexandria Technical college for woodworking and carpentry. In 1986, he entered into the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (V.I.C.A.) Skills Olympics for his expert woodworking where he placed first in Minnesota and went on to represent Minnesota in the nationwide event, placing third. Jerry continued in a successful general contracting career building houses, known for his quality work, unmatched creativity, and attention to detail; working alongside his son for many years and including work on HGTV and DIY network shows where he was affectionately known as “Pops.”
Jerry was known as an avid hunter and fisher who loved to share stories and his game meat. He loved the thrill of the hunt, traveling to find the big game, but he felt the most at home surrounded by his family, hunting together on his family land every year. Whether they got the big one or not didn’t matter to him as long as he was surrounded by as much of his family as possible, sharing all the stories from previous years. It was always more about returning to where it all began and coming back together, no matter how far life had taken you away.
More than anything, he loved to share stories, pictures, and accomplishments of all four of his grandkids. He was never more proud than when he was talking about something one of his grandkids did or could do. His grandchildren were his true pride and joy, which was evident in his eyes any time he talked about them or while he was watching them during any milestone, big or small.
Jerry had a positive, can-do attitude when it came to challenges and life. Even in the face of adversity, he always believed that he could do it, whether that be something to accomplish in life, the job at hand to figure out, or battling for his life.
Gerald was preceded in death by his father, Duane.
He is survived by his mother, Ardyth; wife, Elke (Pressler) Corbin; two children, Jessica (Kevin) Rosenquist and Andre (Tara) Corbin; four grandchildren; and six siblings.
Memorial Service is planned for September 16, 2022, at 11:30 A.M. with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the Buffalo Covenant Church in Buffalo, MN. Reception to follow at the church.

Selmer Monson, 86
Selmer (Sam) O. Monson, age 86, of Ramsey, MN went to be with the Lord on August 27, 2022.
Sam was born on May 8, 1936 in Hatton, North Dakota. Sam was united in marriage to Lois Nystrom in February of 1998. He had a very kind heart, and could not say no to anything.
Sam entered the Air Force, and served six-and-a-half years in Japan and Fort Meade.
Following his service in the military, he attended the University of North Dakota and the University of Minnesota, receiving a degree in finance.
While living in Florida, he was part of the Civil Air Force, flying missions over the Atlantic.
Sam owned two airplanes, and taught flying lessons for a number of years. He also enjoyed woodworking. He made furniture and many small things. Sam also enjoyed golf, golfing on many courses in many states.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Selmer and Olga Monson; and four brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his two brothers, Wallace (Darlene) and Allen Monson; wife, Lois; children, Kevin (Paula), Kimberly (Naman), Kelly and Kirk; step-children, Doug (Barbara), Joel (Sheila) and Janine; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Service is planned for September 15, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 1200 Hwy. 25 S., Buffalo. Visitation will be September 15, starting at 9:30 a.m.
Jane Sieg, 84
Jane Carol Sieg, 84, of Hanover, and formerly of Monticello, was called home to be with Jesus on Sunday, August 28, 2022.
She was born on April 5, 1938, to William and Florence (Dominick) Lohmar in Watertown, MN.
On June 7, 1958, Jane married Donald Sieg. They lived in Monticello, MN.
Jane and her late husband, Donald, farmed for several years.
She enjoyed antiquing, love of birds and nature, and her love of drives in the country; she could drive (ride) for hours. Jane loved egg coffee, and she never knew a stranger.
Jane is survived by her daughters, Alicia (Lisa) Boone and husband, Steve, of Flippin, AR, Ginelle Peterson, of St. Michael, MN; and son, Guy Sieg, of Park Falls, WI; and grandchildren, Daniel Sieg, Jacob Sieg, Kevin Sieg, Jennifer Sieg, Zachary Boone and Angela Boone; and many loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Florence Lohmar; her husband, Donald Sieg; and by brothers, Jim Lohmar and Doug Lohmar.
A Memorial Service for Jane Sieg will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Alive Lutheran Church in Monticello. Pastor Peter Gueldner will officiate. A time of gathering will be held on Monday, September 12, one hour prior to services at the church.
