Darrin Christensen, 32

Darrin James Christensen, age 32, of Buffalo, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2020.

He was born in St. Louis Park, Minnesota on November 18, 1987, the son of James and Colleen (Boeser).

Darrin was baptized in the spring of 1988. His rebirth through baptism and his constant faith throughout his life brought him renewed joy and peace.

Along with his loving parents; sister, Amy; and nephew, Drayke; he had many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that he cherished. He especially loved spending time with his nephew, Drayke. They shared many hours playing football, basketball and hockey together.

He avidly loved playing and watching hockey. He put his skates on when he was six years old and played competitive hockey until he graduated from high school. He was a big fan of the Minnesota Wild. He loved to watch them on television, and also attended many games over the years to cheer them on.

Spending quality time with his family and friends throughout the years at the family’s place at Fish Trap Lake brought him many happy memories. He loved to just hang out around the campfire or on the boat with his parents; sister, Amy; and nephew, Drayke, along with other family and friends. He especially loved being on and in the water. He enjoyed knee boarding, tubing, and spent endless hours swimming.

Darrin will be forever remembered for his bright eyes, long eyelashes, and his HUGE smile! He will be deeply missed!

Darrin is survived by his parents, James and Colleen Christensen; and a sister, Amy Christensen (significant other Joel Magandy), all of Buffalo; a nephew, Drayke Corradi; paternal grandparents, Ronald and Doreen Christensen, of Alexandria; further survived by aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Ralph and Carol Boeser.

Funeral services for Darrin James Christensen were held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Gary Palermo will officiate. Jess Ortloff will be a speaker. A visitation was held one hour prior to services on Saturday, August 8 at the funeral home.

Sylvester Kolles, 86

Sylvester T. Kolles, age 86, formerly of Albertville passed away Thursday, August 6 at St. Cloud Hospital. He was born in Elk River on September 21, 1933 the son of Marcus and Clara (Becker) Kolles.

Sylvester engaged in dairy farming for many years. He ushered at St. Albert’s Catholic Church in Albertville and belonged to Catholic Aid Association. Sylvester was a very loving, caring and generous man! 

Sylvester was preceded in death by parents, Marcus and Clara Kolles; sister-in-law, Kathleen Kolles.

He is survived by a brother, Gordon Kolles, of Richfield, MN; sisters, Anita Kolles, Mankato, MN., Irene (Al) Theis, Hastings, MN, and Kathleen Knapp, of California. He will be dearly missed by many family members and friends!

A Private family graveside service will be held at St. Albert Catholic Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Gregory Marquette, 54

Gregory J. Marquette, age 54, of Le Sueur died at his home after a two-year battle with cancer on Wednesday, August 5, 2020.

Mass of Christian Burial was on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Le Sueur, MN. Visitation was at the Kolden Funeral Home on Monday, 4:00 p.m. ~ 7:00 p.m. and continued on Tuesday morning at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until about 10:45 a.m. They then processed to church for the 11:00 a.m. Mass. Burial will be at a later time in Riverside Cemetery, Spencer, Iowa.

Special music was provided by Jeff Christ, Megan Roby, Rachel Pletke, Quinn and Seth Hynes-Marquette. Readings by Katie and Juston Meier. Pall bearers were Steve Pink, Patrick Guerrero, David Pletke, Mike Boutin, Tony Springman, and Steve Meier. The family requested that attendees help celebrate Greg’s loves by wearing Twins, Vikings or Gopher gear to the wake and funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to LS-H Blue and Gold or St. Anne’s Choir.

Gregory was born on September 21, 1965 in Buffalo, MN to Donald and Virginia (Clarke) Marquette. He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1984 and attended Mankato State University.

He married Sue Hynes on September 28, 1991 at St. Anne’s Church in Le Sueur, MN. The couple lived and raised their family in Le Sueur and were active in St. Anne’s Church and Greg was a long-time member of St. Anne’s Choir.

He worked for 25 years at the Minnesota Women’s Correctional Facility in Shakopee, MN.

Greg is survived by his wife, Sue; sons; Seth Hynes-Marquette, of Minneapolis, MN; Noah Hynes-Marquette, of Le Sueur, MN; and daughter, Quinn Hynes-Marquette, of Le Sueur, MN; parents, Donald and Virginia Marquette; and sisters, Lynn (Tony) Remer-Springman, of Buffalo, MN, and Julie Marquette, of Monticello, MN; and parents-in-law, Jim and Pat Hynes, of Spencer, Iowa, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, and friends.

He was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Mike Hynes and Bradley Remer.

Gregory James Marquette was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, exploring, hiking, and camping. He routinely planned summer and ice fishing trips with his children, as well as an annual hunting trek up to the great north woods. Gregory was a true man of nature.

Greg loved to sing; he was lead singer in a rock band in college called the Foster Brothers. After that, you could always catch him singing his heart out to classic rock and playing air drums behind the steering wheel.

He also had a great passion for athletics. Greg loved the Minnesota Vikings, the Twins, the Gophers, and any LSH sports. He always made Sunday football a priority. He played football and ran track and field in high school. Some of Greg’s favorite things to do were watch his children participate in both high school and college sports and following their individual musical and artistic endeavors. He was always very supportive of his children’s passions and interests.

Although Greg’s 54 years weren’t long enough, he and his family have no regrets. The family made spending time together a top priority, often watching movies, having game nights, and traveling. Their most recent trip was truly the trip of a lifetime, exploring Italy, France, and Ireland together. Some of the major highlights included a trip to the Vatican on Christmas Eve, and spending Christmas Day in a Roman monastery with Greg’s sister, Lynn, and her family.

 


JoAnne Nieman, 53

JoAnne Marie Nieman, age 53, of Buffalo, MN, passed away August 6, 2020.

She was born on November 5, 1966 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Gordon and LaVerne (Barthel) Nieman. She grew up in Buffalo and attended Buffalo High School, where she graduated with the class of 1984.

JoAnne was a unique and spirited individual. Her extroverted personality allowed her to easily make many cherished friendships in her life. If you got on JoAnne’s good side, you knew you’d have a loyal and trusted friend forever; she would love you with her whole heart. She was a fierce protector of her family and friends, and she deeply cared about everyone’s well-being. Regardless of her tough exterior, she had a warm and kind personality mixed in with a little bit of witty humor and spunky attitude!

Sobriety and AA has kept her grounded and her faith strong. She had a zest for life and made sure to live it to the fullest. JoAnne was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved to take road trips and cruises around the area with her friends. She recently traveled to Boston and New York with her daughter, Mahlika, on a memorable mother-daughter trip, and enjoyed going ice fishing on Lake of the Woods with her best friends.

JoAnne was preceded in death by her father, Gordon; aunt, Janet Berning; and sister-in-law, Linda Nieman.

She is survived by her children, Mahlika Nieman and Louis Czech; mother, LaVerne Nieman; brother, Jon Nieman; dog, Bodhi; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Open mic will begin at 6:30 p.m. and prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at St. Francis Xavier Church in Buffalo.

Kay Strand, 84

Kay Adele (Lundsten) Strand, age 84, of New London, Minnesota, passed away Saturday evening, August 8, 2020, at Carris Health Rice Memorial Hospital, Willmar. Full obituary to follow.
