The Great Outdoor Fair brings fun and learning to Sturges Park
The Great Outdoor Fair, hosted by the City of Buffalo, took place at Sturges Park last Saturday, Sept. 19.
The free community event ran from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., offering visitors an opportunity to try outdoor activities, learn about Minnesota’s natural resources, meet local organizations, and enjoy a day along the Buffalo Lake shoreline.
The fair featured activities for visitors of all ages. Among the attractions for youngsters was a rock-climbing wall, archery stations, arts and crafts tables, a bounce house, and hands-on activities designed to teach about the sport of fishing.
Members of Women Anglers of Minnesota provided instruction on the fine art of casting a fishing pole, and many kids received gear and tackle boxes from volunteers with Fishing Klinics for Kids.
Educational presentations added another component to the event. Topics included “Chicken Keeping 101,” presentations by Minnesota Zoo naturalists, information about pollinator-friendly environments, and a variety of nature-themed subjects taught by volunteers with the Science Museum of Minnesota.
Fairgoers looking to relax enjoyed live music performed at the Sturges Park bandshell, while food trucks served up tasty eats and treats for those needing to re-charge.
Many who attended The Great Outdoor Fair enjoyed a day outside while discovering the variety of recreational and educational opportunities available in the Buffalo area.
