Gear-heads turn out despite wet weather
Maple Lake was the place to be last Saturday as car enthusiasts gathered for the 15th annual Gear-Head Get Together, a tradition that brings together a collection of classic vehicles, powerful muscle cars, trucks, motorcycles, and everything in between that has an engine.
The event offered plenty for visitors to see, from carefully restored classics proudly displaying their history, to attractions such as the Power House Mobile Dyno, which tested engine power and output, to the American Wall of Death, where daredevil drivers circled a vertical wall at high rates of speed.
Those who attend the Gear-Head Get Together quickly realize the event is more than just looking at vehicles from the past. Attendees could be heard swapping stories about finding the elusive final piece to their restoration puzzle, to reliving memories of growing up in an era where vehicles were cherished for their uniqueness, power, and beauty.
For many, the gathering provided an opportunity to meet people with a shared passion for automotives, visit with old friends, and to make new ones.
Cloudy skies drizzled rain off and on throughout the day, but the wet weather was nowhere near a wash-out and didn’t dampen the spirits of those gathered.
Despite the drizzle, show attendees took their time to stroll through the gathering and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. Many questions about engines, paint jobs, and restoration were exchanged and answered.
Robby Vee entertained crowds with classic rock-n-roll tunes early in the day, and the Star Chief’s performed on stage later in the afternoon. Food trucks filled open spaces that weren’t reserved for the stars of the show, while members of local service organizations grilled burgers and pork chops to keep the crowds fueled throughout the day.
The Gear-Head Get Together is a reminder of another era, one that brings folks together and forms connections through personal memories and stories, creating a chance to spend the day surrounded by great-looking vehicles and like-minded company.
