Rockin’ Around the Christmas Train

Buffalo welcomes the Canadian-Pacific Holiday Train with strong turnout

Whether you’re a classic Christmas carol fan or up for what’s new in music these days, there was fun for everyone to be had last Thursday, when the Canadian-Pacific Holiday Trail rolled into town, bringing with it a mixture of carols, swingin’ country, and classics.

Every year, the Canadian-Pacific Holiday Train makes its way from Montreal, Canada into the U.S. on a voyage against hunger in local communities. Marking the 21st Anniversary of the event, CP  awarded the Buffalo Food Shelf $4,500 to aid in their local fight against hungry communities.

This year, the Buffalo City Council announced that 791 pounds of food was collected, along with $600 in donations. Buffalo Police Chief Pat Budke estimated a crowd between five and six thousand.

The Holiday Train also brings with it entertainers, usually of some cultural renown. This year, breakthrough icon Meghan Patrick played in Buffalo, along with Tanika Charles, and Kelly Prescott. Making special appearances in Buffalo were a very musically-inclined Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, and the Grinch.

Fred Naaktgeboren, one of the key members who spearheads the food shelf, writes of the event, “The Food Shelf wishes to extend a huge thank you to all who were involved in making the train visit successful.  These include: the City of Buffalo, Buffalo Police and Reserves, Rockin Riders 4H, DOJO Karate, Schultz Sister Singers, KRWC Radio, DeZiel Heating and AC, American Family Insurance, Santa, and Buffalo Lions and Lioness Club.

The support of the Buffalo community has provided the Food Shelf with the ability to serve 300 families at Thanksgiving and 300 more at Christmas  with holiday dinners.  God bless you all.”

The Wright County Journal-Press and The Drummer would like to thank the community for its support to end hunger and solve food insecurities within our community. We wish you a Merry Christmas, and hope you have a happy New Year!
