Gilbert Scheiber, 93
In Loving Memory
Gilbert “Toby” “Gil” Scheiber
February 5, 1932 - July 11, 2025
Gilbert “Toby” Scheiber, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud Korean War veteran, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, with family by his side. He was 93 years old.
Born on February 5, 1932, to Herman and Clara Scheiber, Gil lived a life rooted in love, faith, service, and community. He proudly served in the Korean War as a Technical Sergeant with the U.S. Army’s 45th Infantry Division. While overseas, he earned the Combat Infantryman Badge - a mark of bravery awarded only to those who faced the enemy on the front lines. His service was a source of deep pride and a defining chapter of his life.
After returning home, Gil enjoyed playing baseball at the Hollywood Store and attending local dances with friends-one of which led him to meet the love of his life, Alberta Odenthal. They married on September 15, 1956 and shared nearly 69 years of devoted partnership.
Gil and Alberta built a beautiful life together in Delano, Minnesota, raising three children and cherishing time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gil especially loved hunting pheasants, fishing on Minnesota’s lakes, gardening in the backyard, and cheering on his beloved Minnesota Twins. His garden was not only bountiful, but was a reflection of his patience, care, and joy in simple things. Gil’s Catholic faith was a cornerstone to who he was. Throughout his entire life, he gave his time by volunteering in the church, as well as the local nursing home. He was proud to become a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus Catholic organization. The adventurous Gilbert and Alberta loved to travel by Motorcoach. They visited every state, except two!
In his later years, Gil and Alberta shared a peaceful and loving routine-reading the newspaper together, keeping tabs on the weather, and listening to the Grand Ole Opry every Saturday night. His presence was a steady comfort to those around him, marked by a warm smile, a gentle wit, and a heart that never stopped giving.
Gil is preceded in death by his sisters, Loretta Lee, Geraldine Scheiber, Jean Henchman; infant brother, Armand; and son, Michael.
Gil is survived by his devoted wife, Alberta; son, Mark Scheiber, of Minneapolis; daughter, Mary Lyons and her husband, Kevin Lyons; along with their sons, Hayden and Coleman, all of Colorado; and daughter-in-law, Renda Scheiber, of Minneapolis. He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Dustin Scheiber (wife, Amanda; children, Ava, Zoe, and Eli), and Angie Stocker (husband, Neil; daughter, Kynlee).
A wake will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on the St. Peter’s Campus of the Church of St. Maximilian Kolbe (Martha’s Hall) in Delano, Minnesota. The funeral Mass will follow, next door, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church. (217 2nd St. S). Family and friends are invited to join in procession to Calvary Cemetery in Delano for the burial. A lunch will be served afterward at the St. Joseph Campus (401 River St. N).
Gilbert’s life was one of quiet courage, deep love, and enduring faith. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, bravery, humility, and warmth that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Mary Bernadette Paumen was born the fourth child of Leonard and Muriel (Pribyl) Paumen on August 30, 1935, on the family farm south of Maple Lake. Mary attended a one-room country school and graduated from Maple Lake High School in 1953. After graduation, she moved to Minneapolis and worked for Pure Oil Co. She returned to Maple Lake and was united in marriage to George Van Offeren on December 27, 1958. Together, they operated the family dairy farm for almost 30 years and eventually bought land where they built their home, as well as a barn. In 1962, Mary began working for Wright Hennepin and continued working in various positions, eventually becoming the Human Resources Manager. She retired after 30 years. She loved sharing stories of her working years, where she made many lifelong friends.
After retiring, they sold the farm and moved to Florida. Needing something to do, Mary went back to work at a golf course in 1992. Tragically, George died from a fishing accident that year.
Mary moved back to Maple Lake, and she met Lyle Mueller at a senior dance. They shared many happy years, and Mary got to experience being a grandma as each of Lyle’s grandchildren were born. She thoroughly enjoyed being part of all the family events.
Mary was a lifelong member of St. Timothy Catholic Church, Council of Catholic Women, Maple Lake VFW Auxiliary, Maple Lake American Legion Auxiliary, and several card clubs. She enjoyed life fully, loving to travel, fish, play cards, go to casinos, snowmobile, cheer on Minnesota sports teams, and, especially, to spend time with family and friends. She will be remembered for her faith, feisty nature, spirited demeanor, and sense of humor.
