A day of celebration and community for Gear-Heads
Every third Saturday in August, the streets of Maple Lake roar to life with the sound of high-performance engines and the buzz of excited conversation. The annual Gear-Head Get Together is a celebration of machinery, community, and shared passion for anything with a motor and horsepower.
Last Saturday, the City of Maple Lake was once again transformed into a gear-head’s paradise, as auto enthusiasts gathered to show off, admire, and talk shop over a variety of vehicles ranging from vintage model T’s to tricked-out hotrods – there was something for everyone’s automotive palate.
Early-morning rain didn’t dampen the spirits of enthusiastic show-goers. Older generations enjoyed a bit of nostalgia while reminiscing of the past. Young families pushed strollers past rows of polished chrome as kids followed close behind, pointing at custom decals and designs. Flames on the hood are always popular, no matter what age. Show-goers appreciated the efforts of vehicle owners who put a deep passion and love into their restorations.
Proud gear-heads were seen talking with crowds of on-lookers, eager to tell the story of restoration and creation, from re-built engines, to finding that elusive rare spare part that brought their dream into reality.
The Swap Meet area was packed with folks sifting through a variety of old parts, nostalgic license plates, and unique artistic creations crafted from automotive memorabilia.
Food trucks kept hungry attendees fueled up throughout the day while live music performed by Robby Vee in the morning and Pull Start Diesel in the afternoon kept crowds entertained during the event, which ran from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
While there was no shortage of classic cars and retro vibes, the show also reflected the evolving world of automotive culture, with a handful of modern sports cars and even a Cybertruck parked on the street.
As the crowds began to disperse and vehicle hoods were shut before being driven away, the 14th annual Gear-Head Get Together came to a close, bringing together a community whose members bleed motor oil and share a passion for mechanics — a place where gear-heads of all kinds can come together and feel right at home.
