Delrose Ahlm, 90

Delrose Bertha Ahlm, 90, of Buffalo, passed away September 3. She was born April 25, 1928 in St. Michael, to William and Mary (Otten) Weber.

Delrose was raised in Buffalo, and attended Buffalo High School, graduating with the class of 1945. During her high school years, she started dating Donald Ahlm, and the two were joined in marriage at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Sept. 29, 1951. Together they raised their daughter, Laurie.

Delrose worked for several places including King’s House Retreat Center throughout the 1960s, Gamble’s Corporate office in the Twin Cities, and finally for Lake Region Co-op, where she retired from in the early 1990’s. She continued to work part time at Renaissance West in Buffalo where she enjoyed meeting people and making new friends.

Her faith was a significant part of her life and she was active with the CCW women’s group at St Francis Xavier Church, and the local Serra Club. She continued to volunteer at St. Francis and King’s House Retreat Center throughout her retirement years. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family.

She is preceded in death by: her husband, Donald; parents, William and Mary Weber; and siblings, Isabelle, Lawrence, Marie, and Norman (Chuck).

Delrose is survived by: her daughter, Laurie (Tony) Bussmann; grandchildren, Amber (Thomas) Bakken, Jennifer (Andrew) Hayes, and Zachary Bussmann; great-grandson, Owen Patrick Bakken; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, September 8 at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m., all at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Education Center, 219 19th St NW, Buffalo.

Interment to follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Buffalo. Father Nathaniel Meyers was the celebrant.

Howard Carstedt, 9

Howard B. Carstedt, 94, of Buffalo, passed away September 10. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial is set for Saturday, September 22, at 11 a.m. with visitation one-hour prior at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, in Annandale Minn. Full notice to follow.

Mary Daniels, 86

Mary Rose Daniels (Swanberg), 86, of Monticello, was reunited with her loving husband and soul mate, Wil, on August 30, after a brief battle with cancer.

She enjoyed raising her six sons and was very proud of them and their wives.  Her grandchildren were the treasures of her later years and she was blessed with many friends. 

Mary volunteered with reading group, choir, GALA, Monticello Community Center, church groups, and various other community groups and activities.  She loved to travel, having visited all lower 48 states. 

She loved playing games, dancing, and playing cards, especially solitaire and poker. Mary also loved Bunco, charades, golf, and bowling. She enjoyed watching her boys play numerous sports and was an avid Vikings and Twins fan.

Mary’s unwavering faith was a beacon guiding her through life and drawing others to her. Her love of the Lord made her strong in prayer and led her in a devout Christian life.

Even though Mary always lived in a small town, her world was grand as her infectious smile and fun-loving attitude brought joy and happiness to everyone she would happen to meet, even during her final days at the Monticello Care Center.

In her youth, Mary was a cheerleader grade 7-12. She also hunted ducks and pheasants from age 8-14 years, but never could shoot the gun.  Instead she preferred to be the dog controller.

Mary worked as a medical lab technician before raising her six boys.  The family lived in Monticello and Elk River and in 1977 bought a resort in Lincoln, Minn. 

Mary spent nine years at Four Pine Resort before returning to Monticello where she continued to volunteer and spend time with family and friends. She worked at Monticello High School and River Place Clinic before retiring.  Mary enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities and sporting events where she was always dressed in the appropriate spirit gear with matching hat, shoes, and jewelry.

Mary was preceded in death by: her husband, Wil; and her parents, Franz and Lucille Swanberg.

Mary is survived by: her sons, Tim (Barb) of Lincoln; Todd (Julie) of Maple Grove;  Trevor (Tammy) of  Osage; Ted (Shannan) of Monticello; Tom (Paula) of Little Falls; Tony (Lyne) of Buffalo; brother, Richard Swanberg of Fort Worth, Tex.; sister, Donna Brauch of Monticello; 15 Grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Wed, September 5 at the Church of Saint Henry, 1001 E. 7th St, Monticello. Mass of Christian Burial was on Thurs, September 6 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one-hour prior at the church. Memorials to the church.

Serving the family is the Peterson Grimsmo Funeral Chapel.

 

Maxine Franke, 75

Maxine Mildred Anna Franke passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 4, at the age of 75.

Born on November 10, 1942 to Leonard and Mildred Bruska, she was the middle of five children. Born and raised in Buffalo, she remained a lifelong resident until her death.

On April 21, 1961 she was united in marriage to Paul Franke. Their union was blessed with three children. Her interests included reading, gardening, jig saw puzzles, soap operas and road trips.

Maxine enjoyed working at many jobs throughout her lifetime, among her favorites was her job at the Wright County DMV where she enjoyed meeting and serving friends and strangers alike.

After 20 years of service she retired and her days became busier than ever, filled with road trips, countless activities involving all of her grandchildren and visiting with friends and family.

If you were to ask Maxine what her greatest accomplishment in life was she would have told you raising her family was at the very top of her list. Her ever present love and commitment to family stretched beyond just her immediate family to extended family members and special friends.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Paul; her parents, Leonard and Mildred Bruska; her father and mother-in-law, Otto and Ida Franke; sisters, Evelyn Stumpf and Shirley Uecker; brothers-in-law, Harry Franke and Joseph Stumpf; sisters-in-law, Doris Franke, Ruth Peavey and Sandra Peterson; and her grandson, Ryan Hall.

Maxine is survived by: her daughters, Barbara (Robert) Turner of Maple Grove, Kaye (Tim) Berning of Hanover, and son Daniel (Karen) Franke of Mounds View; grandchildren, Connor Turner, Katee (John) Dirksen, Alex, Danielle and Brianna Franke; great-grandchildren, Jack, Reese and Cooper; and special friend, Marlin Klose of Buffalo; brothers, Harold (Judy) and Arnold Bruska of Buffalo; sisters-in law, Annette (Richard) Jensen of Detroit Lakes, Mary Ann Greener of Coon Rapids; and brother-in law, George Uecker of Wright; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorial service for Maxine was held Friday, September 7 at 4 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service all at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church of Buffalo.

Private family interment. 

The Peterson Chapel of Buffalo served the family.

 

Ruby Volbrecht, 88

Ruby Vollbrecht, 88, of St. Michael and formerly of Hanover, passed away on Thursday, September 6 at The St. Cloud Hospital.

She was born on November 23, 1929 in Monticello the daughter of Paul and Anna Marie (Maahs) Schaffer. Ruby was baptized on December 1, 1929 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Monticello by Pastor Gustav Haase.

She was instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith on March 25, 1945  by Pastor Ray Weichmann at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Monticello.

On   November 20, 1954, Ruby H. Schaffer and William H. Vollbrecht were joined in holy marriage at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Monticello.   God blessed their marriage with a son, William H. Vollbrecht Jr.

Ruby was formerly employed as the custodian at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church and School for more than twenty years.  She was also associated with her family’s business Vollbrecht Hardware in downtown Hanover.

She was a faithful member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield.  

Ruby is survived by: loving son, William H. (Paige) Vollbrecht Jr. of Rogers; grandchildren, Hunter Vollbrecht and Hailey Vollbrecht; other relatives and friends, including Brian and Cindy Steinke and granddaughter, Hannah Steinke.    

She was preceded in death by: her husband, William H. Vollbrecht on August 16, 1996; her parents; two sisters, Mabel and Helen; and a brother, Harry C. Schaffer.   

Funeral services for Ruby Vollbrecht were held on Monday, September 10, at 11:30 a.m. at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield.  Pastor Paul T. Schuler officiated. Interment followed lunch at the Hanover Methodist Cemetery. A visitation was held on Monday, September 10 at the church one hour prior to services.

Honorary Casket Bearers were grandchildren: Hunter and Hailey Vollbrecht and Hannah Steinke.

Casket Bearers were Bill Schendel, Brian Steinke, Dave Lohse, Doug Beise, David Lieder and David Klatt.
