Flag raising at Rockford Veterans Memorial

On Monday, May 8, a dedication and flag raising ceremony was held at the new Rockford Veterans Memorial at Riverside Park in Rockford. The event was well attended by members of the public, city officials, and military members and their families.

The ribbon cutting was performed by Rick Martinson, and invocation was given by Deacon Joe Kittok. The presentation of colors was done by members of the Delano American Legion Post #377 Honor Guard. The National Anthem was performed by 2nd Lt. Casey Donohue, United States Air Force. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Rockford Mayor Renee Hafften.

Flags for each United States military branch were raised, as well as the American flag. The United States flag was raised by Commander Paul Holland. The Minnesota and POW flags were raised by Delano Honor Guard. The Army flag was raised by Justin Cook and Randy “Hook” Eberling. The Marine Corp. Flag was raised by Brandon Graunke. The Navy flag was raised by Jim Reynolds and Dale “Bucky” Young. The Air Force flag was raised by Lee Ashfeld and Jim Winkelman. The Coast Guard flag was raised by Henry Bocke and Rick Ronning. Lastly, the Space Force flag was raised by Al Gulden and Joe Herzog.

The dedication and flag raising event went well. There were refreshments available after the ceremony for people to gather and enjoy the memorial and the beautiful weather.
