Hermes-Rixe

Richard and Cynthia Hermes, of Buffalo, and Steve and Judy Rixe, of Corcoran, would like to announce the engagement of their children, Jillian Hermes and Alexander Rixe.

The couple, who met in high school, are both 2007 graduates of Buffalo Senior High School and will each graduate from UMD in 2013.

A June wedding is planned at Glensheen, the Historic Congdon Estate in Duluth, on their 7th anniversary. (P23, D26)

Scholarships

Bethany Lutheran College, Mankato

            Rebecca Haggerty, of Buffalo, and Kasenia Keller, of Buffalo, have each been awarded the Luther Scholarship for the 2013-2014 school year. This scholarship is based on high school grade point average and national standardized test scores.

            Haggerty and Keller are both seniors at Buffalo Senior High School.

 

North Dakota State University

            Travis Johnson, son of Todd and Lisa Johnson, Buffalo, received the North Dakota State University Development Foundation Honor Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes high academic achievement.

            Johnson will enter NDSU this fall and plans to major in finance.

 

Bemidji State University

Academic Achievement  Scholarship

            Kevin Daleiden, St. Michael, received an Academic Achievement Scholarship from Bemidji State University for the 2013-2014 academic year.

            All high school graduates in the top 30% of their class with an ACT composite of 25 or higher, or who have cumulative grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher, are eligible for this scholarship.

            Daleiden will be a freshman this fall and plans to major in business.

Student Success Scholarship

            Four local students have received a Student Success Scholarship from Bemidji State University for the 2013-2014 academic year.

            Students receiving this scholarship are required to have a 21 or higher on the ACT and be in the top 50% of their graduating class, or have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

            Buffalo - Nicole Slicer, freshman, undecided; Jenna Zimmerman, freshman, nursing.

            St. Michael - Talaya Kautz, freshman, undecided; Andrew McCarthy, freshman, mass communications. (P23)

Concordia College, Moorhead

            James Laskey, of Buffalo, son of David and LeeAnne Laskey; Nicholas Olson, of Buffalo, son of Mark and Karen Olson; and Sebastian Gardner, of Monticello, son of Jeff Gardner, Moorhead, and Sally Gardner; will be participating in the Ecology of East Africa Summer Field Studies program offered through Concordia College.

            The Summer Field Studies programs are small, investigative, faculty-led study seminars. Seminars depart in May and are typically one month long. (P23)
